We just had our Empress meet-up at Mystic mountain this past Saturday. One of the ice breakers asked us to list our favorite female icon and express why the choice was made. I selected one of my favorite of ALL time, Mother Theresa. One of the reason I gave was that my mom raised me as an oldest child to be selfless (sometimes I have done this to my detriment), and always giving and charitable, like Mother Theresa and a Florence Nightingale. I heard the names as a child but they seemed, like the biblical stories, a tale that I read in books, not really appearing real; except when my mother made references or required me to read them and believe them as such, though they seemed just stories in a book to my childish mind.
I have read Mother Theresa’s writings in my later years, and found her to be more than saintly, more than a martyr, I found her to be as human as I am, with all my frailties, complexities and realities. It has caused me to repeatedly renew my love of her life’s work and of her contribution to the world. She was beautiful in mind, spirit and deed, and she remained true to her life’s mission until death. She is my all time favorite feminine super heroine.
