Sometime in November I recall writing that no individual was greater than the Republic and the system that has served as the most dynamic in the free world. In similar vein I offer you the following:
Starting in June 2005, in recognition of the many contributions of Caribbean Americans to the past, present and future of the United States of America, President Bush signed the First Proclamation recognizing June as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month.
On May 31, 2017, in continued celebration of the stellar contributions of the people of the Caribbean to the United States, President Trump has renewed this Proclamation.
This Proclamation is very important to me because I am a Caribbean American, and I serve my home country, the United States, as a Peace Ambassador to Jamaica.
Jamaica happens to be my birth country and so, it is with great pride that I share my education, experiences, talents and abilities with the people in the communities I serve in Jamaica. We can share experiences and cultural exchanges, and I can share my journey to being the global citizen I am today, because of the grooming, molding and shaping I experienced growing up in the United States and being American.
It is this very molding and grooming that has shaped me into the adult I am today, so that I may now be a part of a joint effort between the two countries to create peace, friendship and sustainable development in areas of deficiency.
It has been a dream come true for me to serve my birth country and my home country in this capacity. I continue to believe that I, my story and the stories of so many others like me, born in one country and raised American, represent the embodiment of all that JFK had in mind when he sat with leaders of countries across the world, and signed the pacts of peace, friendship and diplomacy, which permit someone like me, to serve as I do today. I am truly grateful. #howiseepc #peacecorps #mypeacecorpsjourney #farinainamibirthland #peacecorpsjamaica #pcjamaica @peacecorps
NATIONAL CARIBBEAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH, 2017
– – – – – – –
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
National Caribbean-American Heritage Month is a celebration of the accomplishments of Caribbean Americans and our long, shared history with the peoples of the Caribbean. We are grateful for the culture Caribbean Americans have shared with our Nation and the many contributions they have made to our society.
Throughout our history, Caribbean Americans have helped create and maintain the strength and independence of our Nation. Alexander Hamilton, who came from poverty in Nevis, was a key contributor to our Constitution and the first Secretary of the Treasury, helping to establish our modern financial system and to create the United States Coast Guard.
Every day, Caribbean Americans help make America more prosperous and secure. Our Nation is particularly grateful to the many Caribbean Americans who have served and are currently serving in our Armed Forces, protecting our Nation, and promoting freedom and peace around the world. Today, more than four million Caribbean Americans live in the United States and continue to contribute to a vibrant culture that enriches our Nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2017 as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month. I encourage all Americans to join in celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Caribbean Americans with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirty-first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-first.
DONALD J. TRUMP
