Like a meteor, you blasted your way into our atmosphere,
Defying the odds of small stature and being the runt.
You were a blazing ball of fire, brilliant, and
stellar, a glow zipping through this dimension.
Full of zest, life, spunk, a spitfire personality.
Laying down the law,
Forcing others to see you, hear you and pay attention.
You were barely 6 weeks old,
when you crawled your way apart from the rest of the litter.
A shooting star across our universe,
Wrapping yourself around my neck,
You were a warmth of protection that wintery day.
You nestled yourself into the empty cavities of my heart,
And healed the needy spaces in my soul.
You consumed my spirit
With a love and loyalty as none before.
You stole my heart, became the apple of my eyes,
the joy of my life.
A woman’s best friend.
You were mine and I was yours.
You picked me as yours that day
I understood you, and knew
that I was yours and you were mine.
As the years passed,
You were my forever terrible twos baby.
My child, my obligation, my responsibility, my duty,
My love-my NouNou-Lee.
Smarter than a genius with the instincts of the wild,
Precocious, rambunctious, defender, attention getter,
Show stopper, setting all records straight for
any who dared encroach into the sanctity of US.
Your instincts were sharp as a tack,
Always on the attack,
Exposing the undeserved and
Meting out requisite distance to culprits.
You were our protection, screaming your soprano shrill
To alert others of intruders, injustice, abuse, and misuse.
You were the brightest shooting star ever,
Darting across our lives
With the intensity, robustness, speed and impact
Of your meteoric spirit.
You bolted into our lives and became cemented,
A fixture in our world.
As your light faded last morn,
Diminishing in the physical,
My spirit awakened as to the spiritual,
celestial force you were to us.
Everlasting in significance,
Our lives forever enriched,
Our memories forever full-of the joy
Of the rare, intergalactic combustion of you.
You-that struck me with the rarity of a meteor,
striking a human-every 180 years.
I, we, were the lucky ones,
The chosen ones.
The beneficiaries of the reincarnated grace
emanating from the soul you carried within you
from another dimension into ours.
We are forever enlightened by the blazing streak of light that was you-
Fast, brilliant, intelligent, smart, cutting, biting, extraordinary and rare.
You are, you were, you will always be,
my NouNou-Lee.
